Dermaplaning is a method of exfoliation where the practitioner uses a ten gauge medical scalpel, to gently scrape off the top layer of dull skin cells and vellus hair, also known as 'peach fuzz.'
Once the treatment is completed, you are left with a smoother, brighter complexion.
Many people believe if you shave the vellus hairs off your face, it will grow back darker and thicker just like other areas of the body, the answer, in short, is NO! There are many different types of hairs growing on the human body, all of which have a different growth rate and thickness. If you look closely you will notice you have vellus hair growing on other areas of your body such as your neck, and abdomen. It is a common fact that some people produce more vellus hairs than others, and in most cases these are the people looking for help and advice on removing them completely or reducing the growth rate. There are many medical conditions that can cause vellus hair to grow, such as, an hormone imbalance, so it is always wise to get this checked by your doctor. However if you are one of the unfortunate people just like me that cannot be treated, then it will be your genetic structure causing the growth and completely removing it is your only option.

Unlike other facial treatments, dermaplaning eliminates the 'Vellus' hair (peach fuzz) present on your face, whilst exfoliating the outer layer of your skin and ultimately removing dead skin cells from the surface of your face. Dermaplaning can be used as an alternative or in conjunction with other facial treatments, such as, medical grade chemical peels. Depending on your skin type combining these two treatments can leave your skin radiant and glowing.
Dermaplaning can be used for many skin types or concerns, most of our clients use this treatment to slow down the ageing process, whilst treating other unwanted skin conditions, such as, dry, rough, or uneven skin tone. Dermaplaning can also help reduce the appearance of shallow acne scars, fine lines and superficial hyperpigmentation. Therefore suitable for most clients with a variety of skin concerns.
Dermaplaning is a safe treatment with very little downtime. During your Dermaplaning treatment your skin is stretched to reduce the risk of nicking the skin with the scalpel. Post-treatment your skin may be slightly red, but this usually lasts longer than a couple of hours. Like with any manual exfoliation treatment, your skin will be more sensitive to sun exposure so it is important that you wear SPF 50 daily post-treatment.
Dermaplaning’s results are seen with just one treatment. However, to continue to see the same results, it is recommended you have a maintenance session once every 30 days. Why every 30 days? Our skin naturally sheds dead skin cells, on average, every 28-40 days. The treatment in one session, removes about 3 weeks-worth of dead skin cells, that gives you just about a 30-day window before vellus hairs return and the skin cell turnover starts to dull your skin surface again.
Quite the opposite, dermaplaning removes the build-up of dead skin cells that can clog up your pores and hair follicles. If they are not removed, the dead skin cells cause breakouts and resulting in dull skin tone.
Having a chemical peel following a dermaplaning treatment, can bring a range of advantages, including:
Deeper penetration of the chemical peel – A Dermaplaning treatment removes the dead skin cells, the chemical peel can then penetrate into deeper skin levels, improving the effects. This can help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, as well as help reduce the other signs of ageing and the effects of sun damage.
Skin care products become more effective – The deep level of exfoliation created when combining these two different aesthetic treatments, any skin products you use will be more effective. These two will penetrate deeper into your skin, helping to nourish and hydrate skin tissue more effectively.
Radiant glowing skin – Combining these two treatments can leave your skin radiant and glowing. The effects of using these two methods combined are greatly improved, when compared to the results of using only one of these aesthetic treatments.
More even results – Not only will your skin be more radiant, with a brighter glow, but combining these two treatments also means that you will see more even results across the whole face. This is because the dermaplaning allows the chemical peel to work equally, over every region of the face.
